Bone and Soft Tissue Sarcoma
The national network was established formally in 2004 (although an informal network had been in place since the mid 1990s). The primary aim is to promote the provision of a comprehensive high quality service for those in Scotland with a bone or soft tissue sarcoma through promotion of early diagnosis and referral of sarcoma patients along with developing a research and education network. The network encompasses cancer treatment which might require the input of a tertiary centre but also those individuals who could be managed locally including children and adults with bone and soft tissue sarcoma.
NHS Quality Improvement Scotland has accredited the network’s quality Assurance Framework.
In recognition that the Scottish Sarcoma National MCN and the national Musculoskeletal Sarcoma Surgery Service have evolved and developed over recent years and are now closely related it is considered timely that both are reviewed. An option appraisal exercise will be undertaken over 2008/09 in order to identify the best way forward for both.
