Scottish Paediatric Endocrine Group Network
The Scottish Paediatric Endocrine Group (SPEG) Network was established in April 2009 to strengthen and develop specialist services for children with endocrine conditions in Scotland.
The network will support endocrine services in improving standards of clinical care of children through the establishment of continuous quality improvement systems and process. Priorities for the Network are to:
- Develop demonstrable quality indicators
- Identify education and training for staff
- Engage with families, children and patient support groups
- Develop standardised national protocols and care guidelines
Paediatric endocrinology deals with disorders of hormonal development and function including growth, puberty and endocrine glandular disorders and disorders of bone and mineral metabolism. Endocrine disorders are wide ranging, affect children of all ages and can be primary or secondary to other conditions. Some conditions may be managed by a general paediatrician with an interest in endocrinology while the management of other, more rare or complex conditions, requires more specialist care at tertiary centres with direct access to specialist laboratory, radiology and other services.
More information about the network is available on the:
