Phototherapy (Photonet)
Photonet is a managed clinical network for phototherapy in Scotland and has been running since 2002.
A range of phototherapies (localised, whole body, UVB/UVA1 and photochemotherapy) are used to treat a wide variety of inflammatory skin conditions. This type of treatment has an increased risk of skin cancer. The network was established to provide equity of care and to improve the standards of phototherapist education and training and has completed the rollout of a nationally standardised IT system which all sites can access and input clinical data.
Photonet in conjunction with NHS Education for Scotland (NES) have been developing a competency based Nurse Phototherapy Training Module which will ensure a uniform approach to the training of Phototherapy across the country.
