Cochlear Implantation

This service for profoundly deaf adults and children is provided by NHS Ayrshire and Arran.

The National Cochlear Implant Programme provides a national cochlear implant service for profoundly deaf adults and children. Following the 2006 formal review of cochlear implantation in Scotland the service from April 2008 is now based on one site at Crosshouse Hospital with additional outreach provision. Referrals to the service come from throughout Scotland. The programme offers a complete package of care from assessment through surgery, (re)habilitation and lifelong follow-up. The Service is now supporting over five hundred cochlear implant users.
